Is Apprenticeship the Right Choice?
Minnesota’s apprenticeship system offers an opportunity for a person with limited job skills to enter a high-wage industry, gaining experience and salary increases through on-the-job training and classroom instruction. The earn-while-you-learn system enables individuals to move to the top of the wage scale in three to five years.
- Private College: Students pay $133K (The average cost of four-year private college tuition in Minnesota.).
- Public College: Students pay $29K (The average cost of four-year state university tuition in Minnesota.).
- Apprenticeship: Students earn $144K (Average wages earned by an apprentice during four years of on-the-job training.).
Earlier this month the Council approved an updated project scope and nearly $1.5 billion cost estimate for the planned METRO Blue Line Extension LRT project. The scope and budget, which now includes 11 stations, was recommended for approval in November by the Corridor Management Committee. The project, often called Bottineau LRT, will extend the existing Blue Line from Target Field in downtown Minneapolis into the northwest suburbs. The project scope and budget now heads to each of the cities along the line for what’s called municipal consent.
