General Duty Statement
Performs advanced-level work involving the production, cultivation, and licensed chemical pesticide application of the botanical collections and displays of greenhouse plants. Performs plant data collection and analysis. May specialize in permanent collections or installations, floriculture or ornamental horticulture under glass.
Follows horticulture industry standard safety practices involving ergonomics, pesticide application, personal protection equipment, and property protection. Trains and leads the work of volunteers, interns, and other staff to ensure quality plant maintenance, design and display. Performs other related duties and responsibilities, including those of the Gardener, as required.

Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture and two years of experience in horticulture or a related industry. Up to two years of horticulture experience may be substituted for up to two years of required education.
Must have a Minnesota Department of Agriculture Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License (written tests part A and E) within six months of the date of appointment.
Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver’s License, or equivalent out-of-state license. The driver’s license must have no suspensions or revocations for driving-related offenses within the two year period prior to the date of appointment. Suspensions for parking-related offenses are excluded.

Eligible lists created from Open Job Posting:
This job posting is open to anyone who meets the position requirements. Non-promotional eligible lists typically are pass/fail and promotion eligible lists are typically ranked. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately one year. If the open eligible list created contains a veteran, one open list will exist. If and when there are no veterans remaining on the eligible list (i.e. hired, withdrawn) from an open list that also contains promotional candidates, two lists will be created: one open list and one promotion list. If two lists exist, the promotion list must be exhausted before the open list is considered.
